Countdown to Go By Bike Month

Go By Bike Month is here. Time to ride.

What is it

A campaign to get more people cycling

Go By Bike Month is a city-wide campaign organized by the Halifax Cycling Coalition and its partners throughout September to get more people cycling. Our goals are to:

  • Build public awareness of cycling as a social good
  • Show that cycling is an attractive option, across ages and backgrounds
  • Replace car trips with bike trips to reduce congestion, pollution, noise and greenhouse gases
  • Generate data to support future cycling infrastructure in HRM

It doesn't matter if you're commuting, running errands, or just out for fun: every trip helps build a healthier, more bike-friendly Halifax.

How it works

Three steps to get rolling

1

Sign up as an individual, or join or create a team.

2

Log your rides

Log your rides throughout September. Track kilometres manually on the website, or connect your Cycling Guide, Strava, or Ride with GPS account to sync automatically.

3

Track your progress

Follow your standing on the leaderboards, with categories for individuals, teams, and more.

Events

Rides, workshops & more

There will be cycling events happening across Halifax throughout September, from community group rides to bike maintenance workshops.

Scavenger hunt

HRM Scavenger Hunt

Visit participating locations across HRM, scan a QR code, and earn entries toward prizes. Many locations also offer discounts and perks to riders who stop by.

Leaderboard & prizes

See who's out front

Once you're signed up, check the leaderboard any time to see how you're doing, solo or as part of a team. There are categories for individuals, teams, and different age and community groups, so there's more than one way to be in the running.

Prizes range from bike accessories to gift cards to cash, with weekly draws too, so you don't have to be the fastest or most dedicated rider to win.

  • Most total km
  • Most rides logged
  • Most consecutive days
  • Longest single ride
  • Most commuter rides
  • Most scavenger hunt stops
  • Most improved (week over week)
